Field Consultant

As the technical lead for key end user customers, and reseller and consulting partners, the successful candidate for this job will be a critical technical evangelist within the western geographic region. The role is a combination of architect, pre-sales engineer and expert services consultant. Working in partnership with the Azul field sales team and Channel sales team, your responsibility will be to solve customers’ problems with a combination of innovative Azul technology, expertise and application knowledge. Four key areas of technical competency are required: System engineering, Java application optimization, application server middleware and virtualization.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Promote and educate targeted accounts on the Azul Systems technology
• Customizes demos to meet customer’s business needs
• Drive and deliver product evaluations, implementation, and deployment processes
• Maps high-level business problems to Azul Systems technology solutions
• Incorporates third party products in order to provide the customer with a complete solution
• Conducts technical workshops in order to facilitate a working level of knowledge with the Azul Systems products
Assists in defining the technical sales strategy for their accounts and actively participates in account planning and management as a member of the account team
Cultivates relationships with customer’s and partners’ technical staff and their management
Tracks customer’s technical issues and escalates to others in Azul Systems, where needed
Engages resources when appropriate in the sales cycle, including the Business Units, Product Management, Engineering, etc., to drive sales
Provides product feedback (customer requirements, enhancements, etc.) to Customer Support, Engineering and Product Management
Discusses architecture, high-level solution viability and implementation strategies with customers, and identifies new opportunities in those accounts
Incorporates competitive data into the sales process
Responsible for completion of the technical portions of RFIs/RFPs
Travel Required as Necessary (1/3 up to1/2 of time)

Required Skills

5+ years industry experience
5+ years of experience in Java programming, system, and/or performance skills
Minimum 3 years experience as an Systems Engineer, consultant with customer focus, or equivalent experience
Strong verbal and written communication skill, and must speak English fluently

Technical Skills

Knowledge of Unix/Linux-style and Microsoft Windows operating systems, particularly at the command level
Practical knowledge of J2EE application architecture, including the technical interactions between the different tiers, protocols involved (for example http, IIOP, JDBC), and the different design and deployment decisions available. Experience in real-world performance analysis and performance tuning including use of leading Java profiling and J2EE performance reporting tools.
Knowledge and direct experience with virtualization technologies (VMWare, KVM).
Knowledge and experience with Java Concurrency concepts and techniques, as well as with Java Garbage Collection implementations in mission critical production environments
Previous Java Software Development experience highly desired
