Scientific Curators are responsible for collecting and integrating scientific information into Biobase’s Proteome brand databases. A Scientific Curator working for YPD (Yeast Proteome Database) will typically work with the full text of a reference to extract and enter all information relevant to the database. Information will be entered both in the form of controlled vocabulary properties (such as Gene Ontology terms) and as free-text annotations which summarize individual experimental findings and conclusions. A background in yeast laboratory work (particularly with the species Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and/or Candida albicans) and familiarity with techniques normally discussed in the yeast literature is essential.

REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. or masters degree in the Biological Sciences
Strong written English skills are essential

This position is ideal for anyone with prior sales/customer support experience in the life sciences industry or scientists with practical experience, who wishes to apply their technical/scientific expertise outside of the lab in a client-facing environment. This position requires travel to BIOBASE customer sites in the US.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pre- and post-sales customer support i.e. be a part of the sales and marketing team and assist current and potential customers with technical and scientific questions regarding BIOBASE databases, software and services (on site, over the phone and via email)
• Present BIOBASE’s scientific value proposition effectively and persuasively
• Explain and demonstrate BIOBASE product features, functionalities, applications and benefits to target audience
• Handle customer related issues in a timely manner and ensure products and services are utilized effectively at customer site
• provide on-site as well as remote training sessions for end-users at customer site

REQUIREMENTS

• BS, MS or PhD in a life-science discipline with strong bioinformatics, computational biology or biology background
• Prior experience supporting bioinformatics database/software solutions preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; prior experience in teaching/trainings preferred
• Comfort zone in working independently in a small office environment
• Outgoing personality, team player with a strong business acumen
• A strong aptitude and desire to learn scientific concepts and follow instructions
• IT background as well as knowledge of BIOBASE products would be a plus

Sales Manager, USA

Sales Manager, USA

This position is ideal for anyone with prior sales experience in the life sciences industry. The Sales Manager will be reporting to the VP of Sales and Marketing and be responsible for prospecting, qualifying and closing on new sales leads in the US and Canadian territories.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Present BIOBASE databases, software, service capabilities and licensing model over the phone, WebEx and onsite meetings to prospects
• Research databases, websites and online directories to identify the most appropriate industries (pharmaceuticals, biotech, academics, libraries, hospitals, non-profit institutions) for sales opportunities
• Follow-up and qualify incoming leads by e-mail and phone and secure new appointments for onsite visits and/or WebEx presentations
• Drive new business growth by soliciting and networking with key stake holders in the life sciences industry to meet revenue quota
• Negotiate database/software licensing terms and bring contract to closure
• Record all sales activities and manage sales pipeline using the SAP/ACT CRM system

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree required.  Prior experience selling bioinformatics database/software solutions preferred.  Familiarity with licensing/subscription based business model highly desirable
• Comfort zone in working independently in a small office environment.  Ability to multitask and handle pressure to meet aggressive sales targets
• A strong aptitude and desire to learn scientific concepts and follow instructions
• Self motivated with a sales oriented personality; rolodex of contacts in pharma and academia strongly preferred
